Same Sex Commitment Ceremonies
“Love recognises no boundaries.
It jumps hurdles, leaps fences,
penetrates walls to arrive at its destination,
full of hope.”
(Maya Angelou)
A Same-Sex Commitment Ceremony shares many things in common with Wedding Ceremonies of all kinds. The major difference is that rather than being a legally binding ceremony, it is simply a public affirmation of a couple’s love and commitment to one another.
As a lesbian, gay, or transgender couple, and thus unable to marry under the law as it stands today, these couples still wish to declare their love and commitment for one another in the presence of friends and family.
Same-Sex Commitment Ceremonies may be religious or secular, formal and traditional or loose and unstructured. The makeup of the ceremony will depend on the couple’s own preferences.
For whatever reason a couple wishes to make a commitment to each other, I am here to take the stress out of planning their ceremony!
Your Commitment Ceremony could contain any/all of the following elements:
• Introduction
• Vows
• Readings/Music
• Exchange of Rings or other symbolic Rituals
• Pronouncement of Commitment
• Reception
A Commitment Ceremony requires as much planning as a Wedding Ceremony so I follow a similar process. The only difference is there is no legal paperwork.
